Situated in North part of Romania at the foot of the Bargaului Mountain , Bistrita is the residence of Bistrita-Nasaud county with 87000 inhabitans. The first documentation are from 1264. From those periode Bistrita knew an economic development through craftsman and commerce practice. The uncertainty of those periode determine to raise the walls of the fortress, in this way in year of 1465 the town had 18 towers, in this way in year of 1465 the town had 18 towers which were protected by craftsmans of the city. Bistrita became the one of the most important city from Transylvania near Sighisoara and Sibiu. The Ghotic church with 75 metres long tower dominates in present too. Construction of this church begun since 1470 during 100 years. Other edifices of those time are: the has been Minorities’ church from XIII. Century, comercial complex Sugalete, Silver House inaugurated in XVI. Century. The old centre of the city remember through its architecture, by the prosperous Bistrita from the past. The touristical potential of Bistrita-Nasaud is extremely rich. The mountain zone is visited by the tourists who love hiking, resting and sport makings. In North are situated the mountains Rodnei and Tibles, in East are the mountains Bargaului and Calimani. The most part of the county is settled on the superior part of river Somesul Mic. The Rodnei mountains include some caves with a big value: Zanelor Cave , Izvorul Tausoarelor Cave (the deepest cave in Romania), Jgheabul of Zailan Cave . The touristical attractions are: Sangeorz Bai Spa with mineral medicinal water, Piatra-Fantanele zone with Dracula Castle, Colibila zone with the artificial lake on Bistrita river, Vine Walley, Arcalina park with many autochtonous and exotic plants, Taul Petros Lake and Taul Lala Mare Lake. In the county we could find also many historical and architectural monuments and you could visit : Ardan, Bistrita, Coldau, Dumitrita, Saralel and also the ruins of Ciceu and Rodna fortresses . Among the architectural monuments are the wood churches from Sarata, Silivasu de Campie, Spermezeu, Salcuta, Tigau, Zagra, Lutheran churches from Henna, Dipsa, Bistrita and Sugalete zone.
